Sprig

FAQ

How to use Sprig, named after the screens and buttons in the app.

Getting started

Can I test drive Sprig for free?
Yes. Download Sprig and use it without paying. Manual accounts, manual transactions, the running-balance register, Safe to Spend and projections, Insights, Budget, and Recurring are available without a subscription. The paywall appears only when you tap Connect a bank. That sheet is dismissible — choose Add a manual account instead to keep going.
What are the main tabs?
On iPhone the tab bar is Accounts, Insights, Budget, and Settings. You can hide Insights or Budget under Settings → Tabs. Accounts and Settings stay. On iPad, Accounts uses a sidebar layout instead of the phone tab bar.
How do I add an account?
Open Settings → Accounts, or Add an account from Accounts. You get two choices: Connect a bank (subscription required) or Manual account (cash, cards, investments, property, loans you keep up to date yourself).
Which devices does Sprig run on?
iPhone & iPad today. Coming soon: Mac & Web.
How do I get support?
Use our contact form.

Accounts

How is Accounts organized?
Pills across the top: Net worth, Cash, Cards, Portfolio, Property, and Loans. Layout sits in the top bar (between the gear and the logo) when there is something to rearrange. Search and Add transaction sit on the right.
What is Net worth?
The Net worth pill totals everything. Groups underneath follow Cash, Cards, Investments, Property, and Loans. Insights also has a Net worth card with history.
What is Balance vs Projected?
On Cash, switch Balance and Projected. Balance is what you have now. Projected looks ahead using upcoming items on the register.
Can I track property and loans?
Yes. Add a Manual account and pick property or loan types, or connect a bank that brings them in. Property and Loans are pills on Accounts and sections in the list.
How are investments tracked?
Open the Portfolio pill on Accounts (or Portfolio from an investment row). See holdings, allocation, and account value. Bank-linked brokerages need Connect a bank. You can also keep investment accounts as Manual accounts.

Transactions

Can I enter my own transactions?
Yes. Open an account register and tap Add transaction (the +). Manual entries live on that account’s register with a running balance.
How does matching work?
On the register, Unmatched sits next to Upcoming. Use it when a hand-entered spend still needs to line up with a bank download so nothing is counted twice.
How do scheduled transactions work?
Upcoming on the register lists bills and paychecks ahead of Today, with categories and a projected running balance. Manage schedules in Settings → Recurring, or New recurring / Edit recurring from there.
How do I use Safe to Spend?
Open a cash account register. Safe to Spend sits in the balance card under Balance / Projected. Expand the row for the breakdown, or open How it’s figured. On a brand-new manual account, set payday on the Manual account form so Safe to Spend can turn on without waiting for history.
What do Select and Search do on a register?
Select is in the register toolbar for multi-select and bulk edit. Search opens find on that account’s transactions.

Budget and Insights

How does budgeting work?
Open the Budget tab. My budget shows planned vs spent, with status such as Under plan, Over plan, or LEFT for the current month. Tap Edit plan (first run: Build my budget). Use Month or Year, and Accounts to filter.
How do categories work in Budget?
Under Categories you see each line with spent and planned. Switch Categories / Groups. Open a category for transactions, or Set limit / Edit limit on a line.
Can I see the year month by month?
Yes. On Budget choose Year, then pick the year range shown on that screen. By month shows each month under or over plan.
What is Insights?
Insights has Spending, Income, and Cash Flow. Cash flow is income minus spending, with a Summary for the period. Spending can show Category, Group, or Merchant, plus Top merchants. Arrange Insights lets you reorder cards.

Settings

Where is Settings?
Settings is a main tab. On Accounts, the gear in the top bar opens it too.
What is in Settings?
Accounts; Transactions rows for Recurring, Merchants & Rules, Categories, Tags, and Link transfers when needed; Security (app lock); Alerts (Low balance warning); Your data → Export & Backup (Export to CSV, Import from CSV); Tabs (Opens on, Show Insights / Budget); Appearance → Theme; About; and Delete Sprig account.
What is Layout?
Layout is in the Accounts top bar. Use it to rearrange how Accounts presents sections and the chart.
